HOMELESS PREVENTION PROGRAMS

GROOMING RACES IN POVERTY PLACES

Bethel Community Facility has developed a project to address the ever-increasing needs of homeless persons in South Suburban Cook County entitled, GRIPP (Grooming Races In Poverty Places). Under one roof, GRIPP provides this underserved population with:

  • Overnight shelter (COED)

  • Showers Facilities (Male & Female)

  • Toiletries

  • Hot meals

  • Personal grooming (provided by volunteer barbers & cosmetologists)

  • Medical check-ups

  • Pharmaceutical supplies

  • Employment assistance

  • Housing (temporary and permanent)

Because so many services are provided to homeless clients under one roof, GRIPP is considered a “one stop” program for the homeless. GRIPP believes the above services will naturally lead homeless adults to advocacy, employability and independent living by means of helping them understand

the choices available to improve their lives.

  • Showers & Grooming: Appearance can be everything, especially when searching for a job or even a place to live. A positive attitude is synonymous with good self-esteem, and, for many, getting a glimpse of themselves in a positive light can produce a reflective change in attitude.

  • Employment: Job readiness, needs assessment, counseling, job development and placement, comprehensive case management (including advocacy and referral services), and additional support services are available for homeless adults seeking employment. GRIPP is designed to provide an avenue of services/programs, which can lead to self-sufficiency via training, employment and housing.

  • Overnight Shelter Overnight Shelter is currently available year round for men, women & children Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday nights from 6:00pm to 8:00am. WE ARE SEEKING ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO INCLUDE MORE NIGHTS.
